CHILD & ADOLESCENT COUNSELLING & THERAPY

Children and adolescents are the focus of the practice. They are the clients and are valued as individuals who despite their young age have a choice in life and their future. Therapy is intensive and centres in on the overall wellbeing of the client. Intensive therapy takes time and therefore it is recommended that clients complete the necessary sessions to ensure that gains made are maintained. A client centred approach is followed and a relationship of respect is maintained with clients. Clients’ current situation and motives for therapy are assessed to develop the best possible therapy plan. Since clients are human beings they will grow and develop during therapy which means that therapy will adapt and change to accommodate their needs. The main prerogative is for clients to become well-functioning successful adults who can deal with the stressors of the 21st Century. Support is provided in order to assist with the development of inner substance to become their best possible self. Therapy is based on the client’s current situation whilst keeping in mind the future that the client wants. To serve clients, a systems approach is used by including the important role players in that individual’s life. Therefore, time is spent with the client’s family to make sure all role-players are on board to sustain gains made, as well as possible gains to be made after the completion of therapy.

Family Counselling & Parental guidance

At Aegis Therapy, a supportive therapeutic environment is provided for the whole family. A passion for young people is the motivator of all services provided; and for young people to excel they need a well-functioning and supportive family system. Therefore, a healthy family environment is of utmost importance. It doesn’t matter if your family is unique and does not resemble a “nucleus” family with a mom, dad and kids. “Any family” can develop into a well-functioning family where each family member can develop and become a functional part of the system. By working together with everyone involved in a young person’s life young people and their families will be able to function healthily. Furthermore, it is imperative to provide the necessary care and support for young people so that they will develop into successful adults that become parents to healthy children for future generations to come.

Subject & career assessments

For young people to reach their dreams and to be successful in life a necessary starting point is the best possible grade 12 certificate, which will empower them to find a place in the world where their talents can be used to achieve goals. Therefore, subject choice assessments are provided to grade 7 and 9 learners and career choice assessments to grade 11 learners. These assessments are comprehensive therefore a broad spectrum of information are gathered on the individual’s aptitude, interest, personality, values and needs. Scientific tests are used to form a global picture of which subject or career options will best fit a specific individual. The duration of assessments are approximately five hours. Afterwards the client receives a written report during a feedback session. On request follow up sessions can be scheduled to provide further career guidance.
